Spectral methods for the Analysis of DNA promoters

We present results on the study of nucleotide sequences in DNA promoters. Spectral clustering and localization analysis allow to group all promoters of the genome (human and of other species) in specific subgroups, characterized by different kinds and spatial distributions of (quasi--)regular motives (substrings) separated by disordered ones. Many of these motives have been found to be related to functional roles in the control of gene expression. We conclude by discussing interesting perspectives of future investigations unveiled by these results
