In the last few years theoretical and experimental progresses considerably improved the understanding on Lagrangian dynamics in complex flows. These studies of particle dynamics in turbulence include: inert and reacting tracers, inertial particles, phase changing particle (e.g. coalescing and evaporating droplets), axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric particles, fibers, dumbbells, aggregates, polymers and self-propelled particles. When particle suspensions become dense new complexity arises, as it is well known from the emergence of yield stress and rheological properties in complex fluids. The connection between small-scale individual particle behaviours and the complex large-scale rheology is of deep fundamental scientific interest and relevant to a variety of industrial applications. Nowadays within the COST Action MP1305 “Flowing Matter” there is a large community of researchers working on these two subjects (Complex fluids and Complex flows), typically employing different approaches and techniques. The main goal of the workshop is to discuss recent progresses on the Lagrangian description of particulate matter from Complex flows to Complex fluids. Extensions and connections with active particles (Active matter) will also be sought during the workshop. More in general, the workshop is aimed at stimulating the COST Action community to develop a description of flowing matter able to encompass laminar flows of dense suspensions as well as the dynamics of diluted turbulent suspensions.

The workshop is meant to coordinate the research activities of the scientists belonging to the Cost Action 'Flowing Matter' MP1305
The program will be organized so to have ample time for discussions and exchanges of ideas and tools between scientists with different background.
